This IDC Survey Spotlight examines how enterprise customers perceive and compare private clouds to public clouds in critical areas. This document is based on data from IDC's Cloud Pulse Survey conducted in 4Q20. IDC conducted this in-depth survey of 1,100 IT and finance decision makers; a portion of this survey was focused on understanding the spending patterns and priorities. The overall goal of the Cloud Pulse Survey series is to identify cloud adoption curve, buyer behavior among enterprise cloud customers, technology trends related to cloud computing market, workload patterns, vendor ratings, effects of COVID-19, and much more.
"Private clouds — on premises and hosted — are increasingly playing a pivotal role in enterprise customers' cloud strategy and digital transformation journey. For many customers, private clouds are more secure, easier to manage, less expensive, and provide better performance. Physics, economics, and regulations provide compelling rationales for adoption of private clouds. However, this does not mean abandoning public clouds. The architecture of future is multicloud and hybrid cloud that seamlessly integrates public and private clouds," explained Chris Kanthan, IDC research manager, Cloud BuyerView Group.
