Abstract
This IDC Survey includes data from IDC's 2022 U.S. Healthcare Provider Technology and Connected Health Survey on U.S. hospitals, regional medical centers, and medical centers (acute/inpatient care). The goal of the survey was to study and understand current and future strategic priorities, spending patterns, investment plans, digital transformation, IT infrastructure modernization, 5G, clinical and operational applications, consumer engagement, connected health technologies (including remote health monitoring, wearables, virtual care, and digital assistants), clinical communications and collaboration, HL7 FHIR, and future industry outlook.
"U.S. hospitals and medical centers face a range of challenges such as staff shortages, dwindling profit margins, competition from new and emerging care models, the rise of consumerism, and cyberthreats," says Mutaz Shegewi, research director, IDC Health Insights. "Strategic priorities and technology spending for these providers reflect a continued focus on service excellence as well as an impetus to address systemic barriers to care and build on the learnings from the pandemic, while the investments for transformation show that these providers are building a foundation for resiliency and growth via investments into operational technology areas with clinical and revenue cycle workflow optimization."
