By: Denise LundResearch Director, WW Telecom and Unified Communications, Venkatesh MahaleSenior Research Analyst, Worldwide Telecommunications, Courtney MunroeResearch Vice President, Worldwide Telecommunications Research
This IDC study presents a 2020 market share analysis of the top wireline telecom service providers impacting the U.S. and worldwide fixed enterprise market. The worldwide market was $335.9 billion in 2020, and the U.S. market represented 21.1% of the global market at $70.9 billion. The market share of United States–based operators is dwindling as the three Chinese operators continue to report double-digit growth in their enterprise revenue led by China Telecom and China Mobile. The global enterprise wireline telecom market is dominated by major service providers as well as a few national-focused telecommunications and cable MSOs.
According to Denise Lund, research director, Telecom and Unified Communications at IDC, "Legacy service providers are walking a fine line of maintaining a healthy balance between slowly phasing out legacy platforms while growing compelling broadband and IP voice solutions in face of fierce competition."
