IDC Survey Spotlight: Who Is Most Likely to Source from Data Marketplaces?

By: Lynne SchneiderResearch Director, Data as a Service & Location and Geospatial Intelligence

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight provides analysis of the results of IDC's November 2020 survey of 300 buyers of data as a service about important issues that influence the purchase of external data.

"Data marketplaces are a really hot topic in both the vendor and the buyer communities. It's not just talk — IDC's survey data shows that 38% of data buyers are very likely to source some or all of their data from data marketplaces," according to Lynne Schneider, research director of IDC's Data as a Service area. "To be successful, data marketplaces need to focus on their most receptive audiences and build functionality that enables new audiences as well."
