This IDC Survey Spotlight illustrates a level of adoption for DataOps and a distribution of methods being used in DataOps practices according to the results of IDC's December 2020 DataOps Survey. Adoption levels are high, but methods being used suggest that respondents are interpreting DataOps as DevOps for data. DataOps is not DevOps for data, but rather it is a combination of technologies and methods with a focus on quality for consistent and continuous delivery of data value.
"A key differentiator between DevOps and DataOps is the separation of continuous testing and delivery of data from continuous testing and delivery of the applications or analytics that consume the data, " says Stewart Bond, research director, Worldwide Data Integration and Intelligence Software market at IDC. "Regardless of whether or not organizations are aligning with an academic definition of DataOps, survey respondents have indicated significant benefits in productivity and quality."
