How Do Pandemic-Induced Changes in Work Practices and Technologies Impact 2021 Automation Investments?

By: Michael SubyResearch Vice President, Security & Trust

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines automation will remain the new normal.

Reconfirmed in the latest IDC survey of enterprise decision makers, the pandemic has had an enduring impact on work practices and technologies. The pandemic experience forced organizations to lean on digital technologies to a much greater extent than previously planned. As many organizations discovered, much of the work that needed to be done was no longer bound by physical addresses (i.e., an office or a datacenter). Digital locations (e.g., IP addresses) met the pandemic need and, for many, will remain the new normal. While this new digital normal met an urgent "get work done" need, cyber-risk increased as the inherent safeguards of physical addresses faded. Automation will be critical in recapturing these safeguards and adding speed and scalability.
