Abstract

This IDC Survey looks at the several attributes that lead to consumer satisfaction with hearables, how vendors scored among those attributes, and which areas other companies need to improve upon in to be considered best in class.

"The smart earwear market kicked into high gear during the pandemic and quickly became the must-have device for consumers to enjoy their audio content by themselves," points out Ramon T. Llamas, research director for IDC's Wearables team. "With so many devices from which to choose at different price points, users found that not all smart earwear is created equally, and certainly some vendors emerged as best in class while others showed certain vulnerabilities.

"The fundamentals for traditional earwear — comfort and fit, manufacturing quality, sound quality, and design —still hold for smart earwear," adds Llamas. "And those companies with an eye toward these attributes quickly found themselves with the highest satisfaction scores. Other vendors would do well to focus on these attributes not only to avoid being among the rest of the pack but to be considered among the top companies and devices on the market."
