Mary Johnston Turner
On-line Presentation

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation takes a deeper look at selected benchmark survey data related to effective digital infrastructure governance models and use of business outcomes‒focused KPIs. This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation is used internally by enterprise digital infrastructure leadership teams at multiple IDC client organizations to provide a framework and catalyst for evolving KPIs and OKRs in order to better align digital infrastructure operations with business outcomes.

IDC MaturityScape: Digital Infrastructure Operating Model 1.0 (IDC #US47596521, August 2021) highlights leadership vision and governance as two major maturity pillars. Survey data collected to identify characteristics of survivors and thrivers was published in IDC MaturityScape Benchmark: Digital Infrastructure Operating Model in the United States, 2022 (IDC #US48315621, November 2021).

IDC's analysis indicates that:

  • Thrivers show strong commitments to collaborative, business-focused governance and KPIs.
  • Survivors generally rely on more tactical and ad hoc digital infrastructure metrics and IT-centric governance.

"IDC's Future of Digital Infrastructure Agenda research shows that 69% of organizations adopting business outcomes‒focused approaches to digital infrastructure operations and KPIs are ranked as exceeding peers in terms of ability to design, purchase, deploy, manage, govern, and secure digital infrastructure resources," explains Mary Johnston Turner, research vice president, IDC's Future of Digital Infrastructure Agenda program. "We encourage all CIOs to collaborate closely with line-of-business and developer teams to ensure that digital infrastructure KPIs and OKRs are fully aligned with top priority strategic business outcomes."
