How Does an Organization's Resilience Impact Services Spending?

By: Gard LittleVice President, Global Services Markets and Trends

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight illustrates the impact of an organization's self-reported resiliency on spending for both business consulting services and the entire suite of IT project services, according to data from IDC's Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, February 2021.

"Firms identifying as more prepared/resilient plan to spend even more on services compared with those less prepared/resilient," said Gard Little, research vice president, Global Services Markets and Trends at IDC. "The cause-and-effect hypothesis that less prepared firms would plan to spend more on services to catch up with peers/competitors is not supported by this survey. Providers of business consulting and IT services need to incentivize less resilient clients that are not planning spending increases to catch up (e.g., more deals with outcome-based components) because their more resilient competitors clearly are not waiting."
