Abstract

This IDC Survey identifies worldwide enterprise digital infrastructure investment and business outcome priorities for 2022, based on results from IDC's Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, Wave 10, conducted in October 2021. The data in this document focuses on insights provided by 652 decision makers representing organizations with 1,000+ employees. These decisions represent organizations in 19 different countries and a wide range of industries. This data represents a subset of the full October 2021 survey, which also included organizations with fewer than 500 employees outside of North America.

The survey results show that cybersecurity, data management/protection, and strategic infrastructure and cloud service support agreements are consistently identified as top-priority digital infrastructure investments in 2022. The majority (80%) of enterprises expect to purchase premium support services for mission-critical workloads, and 76% are looking for vendors to take more responsibility for day-to-day infrastructure operations. Customer engagement and application performance/end-user experience top the list of KPIs driving digital infrastructure investments. Most enterprises (79%) agree on the need to simplify and unify digital infrastructure operations, and many (73%) also plan to adopt consumption-based sourcing strategies for at least some digital infrastructure resources in 2022.

"The results of this survey show that enterprises continue to prioritize investment in digital infrastructure resiliency, security, performance, and support," states Mary Johnston Turner, research vice president, Future of Digital Infrastructure Agenda program, at IDC. "Our research shows that strategic vendor partners will be expected to up their game and proactively help customers deal with rising digital infrastructure operational complexity to ensure consistent service levels and security in 2022."
