Worldwide and U.S. External Enterprise Storage Systems Forecast, 2021–2025
This IDC study provides historical data (2016–2020) and forecast data (2021–2025) for the worldwide and U.S. external enterprise storage systems markets. The forecast represents annual view of the quarterly forecast released in March 2021 in IDC's 4Q20 Worldwide Quarterly Enterprise Storage Systems Tracker. The forecast and historical data focuses on end-user consumption of three categories of enterprise storage systems — external OEM, internal OEM, and "other," which covers cumulative shipments of systems sold directly to customers by original design manufacturers (ODMs). For each of these categories, IDC has estimated value (end-user spending), terabytes, and price per gigabyte.
"As more and more information is digitized and more and more services are delivered in a digital way, storage remains an essential element of the enterprise infrastructure," says Natalya Yezhkova, research vice president, IT Infrastructure at IDC. "Storage infrastructure continues to evolve to become more agile through accommodation of software-defined architectures, greater automation, and as-a-service delivery models."
Direct-attached storage, Switched SAS, Disk storage, Disk-based data protection, Ethernet and USB, Fibre Channel, FCoE, iSCSI SANs, Network-attached storage, Serial ATA drive, Storage area network, Tape storage
