Worldwide Communications Service Provider Operations and Monetization Solution Forecast, 2021-2025

By: Karl WhitelockResearch Vice President, Communications Service Provider Operations & Monetization

Abstract

This IDC study shows that communications SPs are advancing their business IT and network operations systems to support new 5G-based services while continuing to reduce the cost of supporting existing customers tied to already-deployed network technology. IT spending will continue its course and could possibly exceed previously forecast levels as communications SPs bring their operations and monetization environment into alignment with market needs tied to the future of connectedness. The overall communications SP software solution market will grow from $28.4 billion in 2021 to $31.3 billion by 2025. The bulk of this spend will be from all global markets as communications SPs realize the new requirements from 5G and digital transformation opportunities go well beyond what existing systems and processes can now address.

"5G is about enterprise-driven new business opportunity with a secondary focus on consumer but only if the provisioning, assurance, and monetization functions are satisfactorily advanced to meet the operational requirements of real time, dynamic change, and customer experience," said Karl Whitelock, research vice president, Communications Service Provider Operations and Monetization. "The evolving needs of business, the future of connectedness in general, and the ability to establish business-level solutions that go way beyond a network connection cannot be overemphasized. The growing promises of 5G/MEC directly reside with those in the service provider ranks that embrace what software-managed business enablement can deliver."
