IDC's Worldwide Digital Transformation Use Case Taxonomy, 2021: Higher Education
Abstract
This IDC study provides IDC's digital transformation (DX) use case taxonomy for higher education. This taxonomy is organized by seven strategic priorities, which are common in college and university settings around the globe — lifelong student engagement, optimized student health, faculty empowerment, next-gen administration, funding and partnership enhancement, sustainable campus planning and administration, and campus of the future. The study also provides a guide to an institution's digital transformation journey, describing what is possible and areas of high-technology impact so that institutions can take a strategic approach to IT investment aligned with institutional objectives.
"The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic shutdowns forced education institutions to digitally transform their operations on a rapidly accelerated timeline. More than a year later, education institutions are now investing in technological solutions not to survive the pandemic but to thrive in its wake," says Matthew Leger, research manager, Worldwide Education Digital Transformation Strategies at IDC. "Given how the pandemic has disrupted the traditional business and operating models of higher education institutions, successful digital transformations in the industry have demonstrated that technology adoption is now a strategic imperative for education institutions competing for students and talent in the digital economy."
