Abstract
This IDC Perspective discusses new IDC data that reveals the misaligned expectations among senior IT leaders, line-of-business leaders, and C-suite leaders in relation to short-term IT spending. It discusses the implications for planning and executing on business priorities and points out pitfalls that can emerge over the next 6–12 months because of this misalignment.
"There is no intrinsically bad investment plan other than a strategy that fails to set clear expectations and communicate to the stakeholders," notes Joe Pucciarelli, group vice president of IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "The CIO's role is to clearly align and delineate how IT can best enable the business strategy and to work with the CEO to communicate these expectations to the stakeholders."
