This IDC Market Perspective examines HPE's acquisition of Zerto.
Multicloud data recovery and protection (along with complementary disaster recovery as a service, data management, and DataOps services) is a crucial area of focus for IT OEM vendors as they steadfastly build out dedicated cloud and as-a-service infrastructure offerings. Their intention is straightforward: dampen the ongoing incursion by public cloud service providers on the enterprise infrastructure market. IDC anticipates more acquisitions as both IT OEM vendors and cloud service providers seek to add the next wave of enterprises (that want to embrace a hybrid cloud operating model) to their list of customers.
"HPE's intention to acquire Zerto consolidates HPE's position in the data replication and protection market. This is a solid acquisition of the Zerto Platform technology that will fit into HPE's Data Services Cloud Console, help fulfill the company's DataOps strategy, expand its GreenLake-as-a-service solutions plus improving its data migration and container data protection competitive positions," said Phil Goodwin, research director, Infrastructure Systems, Platforms and Technologies group at IDC.
