This IDC study looks at the evolving future of collaborative applications, and how we connect, meet, collaborate, and measure the business impact of working together in evolving ways. During 2020, these applications became how we connected, felt human together, and kept our work together and moving forward. Advanced collaborative enterprises saw streamlining of new processes that digitally transformed their companies and created advantages they could build upon. Often, this was paired with a culture of collaboration: modeling and mentoring working together as a team from the top of the organization down and from the bottom of the organization up.
"The future of collaborative applications will see the introduction of more intelligence, new and more visual ways of connecting with each other, and measuring true value for customers," according to Wayne Kurtzman, research director, IDC's Social, Communities and Collaboration applications. "Fast-evolving features, intelligence, a need to work together from anywhere, and a still growing demand see the collaborative applications market growing to become a $50.7 billion industry by 2025."
