Print Spending Trends Are Moving in the Right Direction in 2021 as the Market Recovers from the COVID-19 Pandemic

By: Keith KmetzProgram Vice President, Imaging, Printing & Document Solutions

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines the latest worldwide and U.S. results from the Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey. This analysis compares the responses to print spending trends from when the question was raised in both February and June 2021 surveys. The results clearly demonstrate that the spending trend on this technology category is recovering from its "bottomed out" state during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the market continues to recover, these survey responses confirm IDC's perspective that the print market will experience a rare rally from the previous year. Print has been in a long-standing maturity state. However, the extreme nature of the pandemic's impact on print spending, we anticipate an increase in spending as businesses and schools resume more normalized operations.
