This IDC study highlights the shares of the largest vendors in the worldwide Big Data and analytics software market as well as trends and significant developments for the calendar year 2020. The study includes a breakdown of the market by four segments: business intelligence (BI) and analytics tools; analytics data platforms software; enterprise performance management, planning, and analytics applications; and artificial intelligence software platforms, content analytics, and search systems. Each of these segments are further categorized into a total of 14 subsegments, three geographic regions, and two deployment methods: public cloud and on premises/others. The study also includes a discussion of key market drivers and inhibitors as well as guidance for technology suppliers.

The data presented in this study maps to IDC's Worldwide Semiannual Big Data and Analytics Software Tracker, which includes the same market segments by company, country, and deployment type, as well as IDC's Worldwide Semiannual Big Data and Analytics Spending Guide, which segments the same market by industry and buyer company size.

"Despite the pandemic or because of it, the Big Data and analytics software market grew faster in 2020 than expected at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The demand for situational awareness, scenario planning, and decision support to move out of the crisis and build digital resilience is fueling better-than-expected growth in this market." — Dan Vesset, group VP, Analytics and Information Management
