U.S. Enterprises Significantly Increased the Scope of BYOD Programs to Meet the Demands of Working Remotely

By: Bryan BassettSenior Research Analyst, Enterprise Mobility

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight analyzes results of IDC's annual U.S. Enterprise Mobility Decision Maker Survey: Devices, conducted in July 2021 among 844 enterprise mobility decision makers in the United States.

Prior to 2020, corporate-liable mobile device programs were steadily gaining favor over BYOD programs in the enterprise as corporate-liable programs offer increased security and ease of management for IT. However, out of necessity, in 2021 U.S. enterprises have dramatically expanded both the scope and the capability of their mobile BYOD programs as a direct result of needing to enable employees to work from home (WFH) or remotely. The rapid expansion of BYOD among U.S. enterprises through 2020 and 2021 is expected to be permanent, as the ability to quickly enable remote workers with mobile access will be crucial to hybrid work models of the future and overall business resiliency going forward.

This IDC Survey Spotlight highlights trends regarding BYOD adoption among U.S. enterprises as a direct result of needing to enable employees to work from home and remotely.
