Abstract

This IDC Perspective, part of a five-document series on capabilities for future IT, explores the essential IT products and services capabilities that make up intelligence engineering for the enterprise. This study lays out the capability development road map for building critical intelligence engineering skills at all levels of the organization — leadership, management, and staff — in terms of what needs to be done now, in the near term, and to build momentum in the future. This road map enables IT leaders to build effective and resilient intelligence engineering within the IT organization.

"Never has a proactive approach to synergy been so critical," says Alizabeth Calder, adjunct analyst with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "Scalable and trusted platforms and practices must be developed from day 1 to ensure that the value for business and IT operations can be realized while protecting the organization from the financial and reputational risks that biased or misinformed intelligence outcomes can create. The IT organization must bring critical skills and direct competence to innovation and intelligence adoption across the organization."
