Automated Governance and Deployment Options Are Top Asks for Foundational Cloud Service Providers

By: Rick VillarsGroup Vice President Worldwide Research

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight provides insights from IDC's Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending (FERS) Survey, Wave 7, conducted in July 2021. The purpose of the FERS survey series (12 monthly surveys) is to explore a range of topics related to IT spending priorities, digital resiliency, and technology/organizational priorities. One of the key topics covered in Wave 7 was the different strategies that enterprises are adopting to take full advantage of the cross-functional sets of foundational cloud services (FCS) for compute, data, and app frameworks. Regardless of strategy adopted, enterprises have several clear priorities when evaluating providers' portfolios.

"Entire industries want to intelligently leverage data and can do so because they have faster access to digital infrastructure and digital innovation technologies via an emerging set of foundational cloud services. While they are adopting a diverse range of cloud deployment strategies, all enterprises place a high priority on specific extensions to their providers' portfolios in the areas of expanded service deployment options, automated resource governance, and creation of robust partner ecosystems." — Rick Villars, group vice president, Worldwide Research at IDC.
