North America Enterprises More Willing to Commit to One or Two Cloud Partners to Speed Shift to Digital-First World

By: Rick VillarsGroup Vice President Worldwide Research

This IDC Survey Spotlight provides insights from IDC's Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending (FERS) Survey (Wave 7) based on the North American (U.S. and Canada) responses, conducted in July 2021. The purpose of the FERS survey series (12 monthly surveys) is to explore a range of topics related to IT spending priorities, digital resiliency, and technology/organizational priorities. One of the key topics covered in wave 7 was the different strategies that North American enterprises are adopting to take full advantage of the cross-functional sets of foundational cloud services (FCS) for the compute, data, and app frameworks delivered by leading cloud services providers. The primary goal behind these diverse strategies is to gain faster access to the digital infrastructure and digital innovation technologies underpinning their digital transformation efforts.

"North American enterprises are adopting a cross-functional set of foundational cloud services to speed their access to the technologies underpinning their digital transformation efforts. Compared with enterprises in the rest of the world, IDC finds that North American organizations are more likely to adopt an FCS provider strategy that accepts greater skills and resource commitments as well as potential lock-in to one or two FCS providers." — Rick Villars, group vice president, Worldwide Research at IDC.
