Abstract

This IDC study provides forecasts of hardware and software revenue and storage capacity for 2021-2025 in the worldwide FOBS market. Spending on infrastructure as a service (IaaS) is excluded from the analysis. The forecast and historical data focuses on end-user consumption in two main categories of the FOBS market: scale-up and scale-out solutions. For each of these categories, IDC has estimated value (end-user spending), terabytes, and price per gigabyte.

"Scale-out file- and object-based storage will become even more critical as enterprises cope with the staggering growth of unstructured data as they try to gain greater business benefit from the information they keep," said Carol Sliwa, research director, IDC's Infrastructure Systems, Platforms, and Technologies Group. "Storage vendors can provide an important assist if they're willing to adapt their products to meet the evolving needs of customers across on-premises and public cloud environments."
