Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation discusses about 5G automation, orchestration, operations, and monetization. So much about 5G is focused on aspirations tied to connectivity with capacity and transmission speeds approaching the same as fixed-line connections. In addition, the 5G SA core network can be orchestrated to deliver a customized service-level approach to specific industry verticals and companies doing business within these verticals. Known as network slices, such customer-specific service offers deliver a new level of automation, innovation, and service agility. This laser focus on enabling communications service providers (comm. SPs) to cater to customers at a deeper level is where 5G SA stands apart from prior mobile generations.

As part of the 3GPP service-based architecture (SBA) road map, the 5G core charts the use of new 5G network functions designed to help comm. SPs deliver additional and transformational customer value while offering the potential for creating sustainable new revenue opportunities. While 5G is designed to meet these needs, it brings comm. SPs a lot more. But what is the offer? What is the opportunity and what is at stake? What does 5G's train of technical functions have to do with business operations in the 5G era? Most importantly, how will personalized 5G services be configured, orchestrated, managed, assured, and monetized so they benefit customers, partners and, of course, the comm. SPs offering such services.
