The C-Suite Tech Agenda: Which Metrics Matter in the Boardroom?
Abstract
This IDC Survey presents key findings from IDC's C-Suite Tech Agenda Survey on the key metrics that matter in the boardroom for C-suite executives. It highlights data from IDC's C-Suite Tech Agenda Survey fielded in 2021, based on interviews with 909 C-suite executives across North America, Europe, and Asia/Pacific.
Modern organizations generate more data than they know what to do with. Yet the pace and unpredictability of change make the ability to extract, combine, and make sense of the data quickly a business imperative. Without that ability, C-suite executives find themselves reacting to volatility defensively instead of using it as an offensive weapon.
This IDC Survey shows that, while customer-centric metrics are being prioritized in the boardroom, decision making in other areas is not necessarily conducive to improving them. Moreover, there are multiple disconnects in the prioritization of metrics in different business areas. For example, focusing on cost reduction in the supply chain and procurement is unlikely to support revenue growth. IDC believes that the C-suite needs to take a much more joined-up approach to how it prioritizes metrics across business functions. Greater alignment among executives is required on what success looks like and how to measure whether it has been achieved in order to establish and prove market leadership.
