Abstract

This IDC Market Perspective discusses the key capabilities of managed detection and response (MDR) and eXtended detection and response (XDR) solutions. MDR and XDR are the key detection and response solutions that can fulfill two of the five core NIST cybersecurity framework core elements, and as such they are garnering their fair share of attention in the market.

"The quality and velocity of cyberattacks that are being seen today require an integrated solution that can ingest different telemetry, correlate the data to identify attacks, and respond in a rapid manner," said Craig Robinson, program director, Security Services at IDC. "Firms that wish to do the monitoring, detection, and response functions should consider an XDR platform, while other firms that lack the in-house expertise to fulfill these functions should consider an MDR service."
