"The worldwide virtual reality head-mounted display market took a strong step forward in 2021, thanks in large part to Oculus," points out Ramon T. Llamas, research director with IDC's Mobile Devices and AR/VR team. "Full year availability, a long list of titles, and strong consumer interest all fueled the company's volumes. But we also need to look at the other strong performers that saw continued growth from new device launches and/or strong local reception. Moreover, commercial interest continues to grow as companies warm to the notion of training employees with VR headsets. Finally, recent talk in the metaverse has generated interest, and this will help drive growth in the coming years."
