Abstract

This IDC study provides an update to IDC's worldwide IoT market outlook, according to Worldwide Internet of Things Forecast Update, 2020–2024 (IDC #US47434121, February 2021). This IDC study provides key considerations for technology suppliers in this evolving and complex market as well as some drivers and inhibitors of growth throughout the forecast period. This forecast is created from IDC's Worldwide Internet of Things Spending Guide. This iteration includes data presented in IDC's November 2021 Worldwide Internet of Things Spending Guide, where 81 use cases and 20 additional industry-specific "other" use cases were identified and sized across the technology stack, with up-front and recurring spend considered.

The surveys that gathered the data presented in this document were conducted prior to the Russia-Ukraine war. "The evolving geopolitical scenario will undoubtedly affect global ICT demand in the coming months and years," said Andrea Siviero, associate research director, European Customer Insights & Analysis at IDC, in early March 2022. "A new IDC's Global CIO Quick Pulse Survey found that more than half the respondents are reassessing their tech spending plans for 2022, with 10% expecting strong adjustments to their ICT investment plans." (For more details, see A New Report from IDC Looks at the Initial Impact of the Russia-Ukraine War on Global ICT Markets, IDC #prUS48928222, March 2022.)
