U.S. Consumers Services and Subscriptions Deep Dive, 2019-2021
Abstract
This IDC Survey provides an in-depth look at service and subscription spend from 2019 (pre-pandemic) through 2021. It covers both established and emerging services, whether paid or free.
The results are from IDC's U.S. Consumer Tech Landscape Survey, which is fielded in December each year. The 2021 survey was fielded among 3,300 households and examines the amount spent, the number of services, the composition of those services, and year-over-year trends.
"Buoyed by the need for connectivity and entertainment, home internet and video content services have been the biggest winners over the pandemic period," said David Myhrer, research VP, Consumer Strategies. "We found interesting dynamics surrounding consumers' move toward video streaming and the interplay of free and paid services."
