Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines a portion of IDC's Worldwide IT and Operational Technology (OT) Convergence Survey carried out in July 2022. The research surveyed 284 energy and water utilities in Europe and North America, covering the following countries: Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Nordic countries, the U.K., and the U.S.

This report is the second of a series of documents unveiling how utilities across both sides of the Atlantic are progressively converging aspects of their organizations, processes, and technology across IT and operations. This includes IT-OT convergence strategies, drivers, challenges, use cases, business value, and partner ecosystems.

This document expands on the analysis contained in How Are Utilities Coping with the Operational Data Deluge? (IDC #US49143423, September 2022). It covers utilities' priorities about OT-related initiatives and shows that investment focus is shifting to reflect pressing operational data needs and growing cloud maturity.
