The Growing and Critical Role of Cloud in the Transportation and Logistics Sector: Perspectives from IDC's 2021 Worldwide Future of Operations Survey
Abstract
This IDC Perspective discusses how the core characteristics of the transportation and logistics (T&L) sector make it an ideal space for leveraging advanced technologies that help organizations collect, store, and extract maximum value from operational data. Increased investment in the cloud — firmly a top priority for the T&L participants in IDC's 2021 Worldwide Future of Operations Survey — will help the sector improve their utilization of digital technology as part of the pursuit to improve efficiency, reliability, safety, and sustainability.
"Cloud is significantly transforming a broad cross-section of industries," stated Leif Eriksen, vice president, Future of Operations at IDC. "Given the transportation and logistics sector's dependance on distributed assets and operations, few industries are likely to benefit as dramatically from putting operational data in the cloud."
