Abstract

This IDC Survey looks at smartwatch and fitness tracker brands. Specifically, we look at the brands that wearables intenders (consumers who plan to get either a smartwatch or a fitness tracker in the next 12 months) are aware of, would consider, and choose. Next, we look at the brands that current wearables owners are satisfied with and how much they would recommend them.

"Wearables intenders have numerous brands and models from which to choose," points out Ramon T. Llamas, research director with IDC's Wearables team. "Now that the wearables market has matured, wearables intenders are going in knowing more about what they want and what the different brands have to offer. Not surprisingly, many of the leading brands have emerged as intenders' leading choices."

"Current owners provide a unique look to help inform the decision-making process for intenders," adds Llamas. "For better and for worse, they can provide insight and frank feedback on what they like and what they do not. In this sense, they end up being brand ambassadors to wearables intenders, and brands would do well to enlist their help to collect input and evangelize the brand."
