Abstract

This IDC Perspective looks at the often-missed opportunity for software buyers to consider when investing in enterprise applications: tying their sustainability and ESG strategy to their enterprise application investment strategy. Organizations are using innovation to improve their business processes, reduce their time to decision, and improve overall business performance; however, most of the innovation isn't being tied to a major trend impacting businesses today — sustainability and ESG.

"Organizations are investing in modern, modular, and intelligent enterprise applications, but in most cases, they are missing tying their sustainability and ESG initiatives to the same investment," said Mickey North Rizza, group vice president, Enterprise Software. "Our IDC's 2022 SaaSPath Survey finds that organizations are investing in many application areas directly related to sustainability and ESG initiatives during the next 12 months. In particular, the applications of supply chain, finance, and ERP applications are at the top of this investment with some of the largest benefits of increased productivity, increased profitability, and decreased costs."
