Abstract

This IDC Perspective looks at high-level survey findings around the state of the energy transition and the challenges organizations face. IDC's Worldwide Energy Transition Survey, 2022, highlights a widespread commitment and some progress from organizations regarding achieving net-zero emissions. However, ambitious goals confidently touted by organizations are being challenged by new global realities, which, in many cases, have slowed energy transition plans.

"There are very few organizations today that do not have energy transition goals," according to Leif Eriksen, research vice president, Future of Operations. "However, IDC's Worldwide Energy Transition Survey shows that these critical industries are still in the early stages of understanding the challenges of meeting those goals — often underestimating the operational challenges as well as the interdependencies with external economic and geopolitical realities."
