Abstract
This IDC study presents the five-year forecast for mobile phone shipments worldwide by device type. The worldwide mobile phone market will reach 1,515.3 million units shipped in 2022, down 8.5% from the 1,655.5 million units shipped in 2021. From there, total mobile phone shipments will grow to 1,623.1 million units worldwide by 2026, resulting in a CAGR of -0.4% for 2021–2026.
"Despite the sharp shipment decline, average selling prices (ASPs) will grow 8.4% in 2022 and are forecast to remain flat heading into 2025," said Anthony Scarsella, research manager with IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. "From a regional standpoint, North America will see ASPs reach near $720 in 2022 compared with Asia/Pacific at $327.11. As 5G devices start to consume lower price segments of the market, we will gradually see smartphone ASPs coming down. However, the minimal drop in 2023-2026 will likely be caused by continued demand for premium devices in developed markets such as North America and China."
