The Opportunity for Manufacturers to Utilize "As Built" Data for NPI and Operational Excellence
Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight focuses on the capture of "as built" data by manufacturers and the ways it can be used to drive improvements. Only 45% of manufacturers currently capture "as built" data across all their plants, with another 32% collecting it across some plants, meaning the industry still has room to improve. This data has many uses including process adjustments, design for manufacturability, developing best practices, and supporting continuous improvement. The opportunity to reduce friction during the new product introduction process, in particular getting new products through the plant floor, remains high.
This IDC Survey Spotlight is based on IDC's Quality Management Survey, June 2022, which surveyed over 400 manufacturers worldwide, across both discrete and process manufacturers, all of whom are involved in their organization's quality initiatives.
