This IDC study provides a forecast for the worldwide augmented and virtual reality hardware market for the 2023–2027 period.

"2022 saw market retrenchment from forces within and outside," points out Ramon T. Llamas, research director with IDC's Augmented and Virtual Reality team. "A combination of a reliance on older models, higher prices on key models, and continued pent-up demand for new device releases along with sustained economic challenges resulted in a down year for the AR/VR market. 2023 will reverse that trend with several key device launches and experiences as early as the first half of this year and continuing to the end of the year. From there, we expect slow and steady improvement in the years to come."
