Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation highlights how hybrid work is changing the ways we think about the employee experience and which technologies and approaches to leadership are most effective for developing flexible and successful work environments. As economic uncertainty continues to challenge businesses in 2023, what does this mean for organizations torn between concerns about cost savings and investing in employee experience? Technically, organizations continue to invest in intelligent digital workspaces, cloud-based applications, automation, and security. They are also investing in the redesign of physical places that foster hybrid and in-person collaboration and innovation. Automation has both rescued workers from redundant tasks and put the onus on them to automate their own work.

"As we look to the future of work from the perspective of the past few years, we seem to have traded uncertainty around pandemic disruptions for uncertainty around economic ones. But the reality is that the accelerated technology and organizational advances spurred on by hybrid or flexible work have positioned many businesses to be prepared for whatever comes next," says Amy Loomis, research vice president, Future of Work at IDC.
