Strategic Worldwide Enterprise Connectivity Priorities and Challenges: 2023 Future of Connectedness Survey Analysis
This IDC Survey summarizes selected results from IDC's Future of Connectedness Worldwide Sentiment Survey, conducted in May and June 2023. Data from this survey is published in multiple documents. This document highlights links between top-priority business outcomes and enterprise connectivity investment challenges and the current state of enterprise "connectedness" and strategy based on region, vertical market, and enterprise size. It also examines the role of the technology supplier and service provider ecosystem in supporting large organizations with their R.A.C.E (Roadmap to the Agile Connected Enterprise).
In this survey, 770 participants represent a global mix of industries and geographies. All are senior IT and line-of-business decision makers tasked with shaping strategic technology, architecture, operating model, and vendor choices for their organizations' network, connectivity, device, and service engagement strategy. Data on investment expectations for connectivity-related technologies and services and other dimensions of the survey will be discussed in forthcoming documents.
"70% of enterprises have an established connectivity strategy in place that includes a path to a modern, connected network footprint, but less than 20% believe they have reached an end goal of class-leading differentiation," explains Paul Hughes, research director, Future of Connectedness at IDC." While network security and managing transformation remain top concerns, enterprises expect to make significant gains toward 'connectedness' over the next two years. 55% of enterprises are investing to ensure networks will be extensively connected, intelligent, edge enabled, and self-aware and ensure ubiquitous access to critical business applications on premises and in the cloud."
