BTPN named as the “Digital Transformer of the Year” for Indonesia at IDC Digital Transformation Awards (DXa)

Grab Indonesia, Commonwealth Life, Bank Commonwealth, and Sinar Mas Land have also been recognized by IDC for excellence in their digital transformation (DX) efforts, and all five winners will compete against other Asia Pacific winners at Singapore

JAKARTA, October 26th, 2017 – IDC Indonesia announced today the Indonesia winners of its first-ever IDC Digital Transformation Awards (DXa) 2017 and named BTPN as the 2017 “Digital Transformer of the Year.” IDC’s prestigious DXa recognizes organizations that have significantly disrupted the market or have transformed it using digital and disruptive technologies.

Grab Indonesia, Commonwealth Life, Bank Commonwealth, and Sinar Mas Land have also been also recognized as the winners for Disruptor of the Year, DX Leader in L3D Mastery, DX Leader in Omni-experience Innovation, and DX Leader in Operational Transformation. These winners successfully distinguished themselves for their discernible and measurable excellence in their digital transformation (DX) efforts across the DX masteries and significant efforts to transform or disrupt the market.

"Organizations in Indonesia have started to understand and adopt digital transformation (DX) strategies in order to be more agile and adaptive towards the changes in customer behavior, especially with the addition of disruptive innovators in the competition. The winners have shown that DX is an inevitability that is beneficial for any organization to stay competitive in the market. According to our research, there are 74% of enterprises that have considered DX as a core strategy, while the rest have recognized its importance to create one in the future. It is exciting to see many companies create a roadmap, establish executive committees, and collaborate with business units to successfully implement digital transformation strategies in their organizations," says Mevira Munindra, Head of Consulting, IDC Indonesia.

The winning organizations from Indonesia in the 2017 IDC DX Awards and their outstanding DX initiatives that distinguished them are:

  • BTPN named Digital Transformer of the Year. BTPN's Jenius is Indonesia's first truly digital bank offering all its products and services through an app with chat, email, and social media support. It utilizes a different brand identity, style, tone and manner from traditional financial services, offering features not previously available in the market. Bank BTPN built Jenius from scratch through co-creation with early adopters, financial services experts, and like-minded members of the public who share similar views on the need to change banking in Indonesia.
  • Grab named Digital Disruptor of the Year. Combining local understanding and smart data science, Grab launched two solutions in 2016: a specially-designed algorithm to support the real-time odd-even car license plate matching policy and GrabHitch (Nebeng) Bike. The filtering and matching algorithm supports the Indonesian government’s efforts to control the volume of private vehicles during rush hours in the capital. Targeted at 38 million daily commuters who travel from Jakarta’s outskirts into the city center, GrabHitch (Nebeng) Bike improves traffic congestion by reducing the number of commuters who travel alone.
  • Commonwealth Life named DX Leader in L3D Mastery. Commonwealth Life established its "Digital Transformation Office," involving IT and other business units to leverage technology in optimizing talent sourcing, business productivity, and stakeholder engagements. Customer engagement apps have been deployed with features like Financial Calculator and e-Services. Other platforms for Commonwealth Life agents and its younger market are also being developed to increase interest and engagement.
  • Bank Commonwealth named DX Leader in Omni-experience Innovation. Bank Commonwealth is transforming the way digital advisory is executed in the Indonesian banking industry, from the current Wealth Management services that rely primarily on human interaction to a digital version of wealth advisory leveraging technology. Bank Commonwealth utilizes the digital platform to extend the reach of advisory services, from one-to-one to one-to-many, with real-time and interactive updates, as well as with the implementation, “Robo Advisory,” an internal quantitative and data analysis project to identify customers and provide them advisory services about their portfolios.
  • Sinar Mas Land named DX Leader in Operational Transformation. To provide better product quality in a timely manner when developing clusters, Sinar Mas Land has brought in IT capabilities as business support in the property industry by launching mobile apps for quality assurance, quality check, and project management. The initiative appeared as part of the productivity enhancement of the organization in finishing its projects, marking innovation in traditional, brick-and-mortar organizations.

IDC presented the DX Awards winners at the IDC Indonesia's Digital Transformation Awards Gala Dinner held at the Bali Room, Hotel Kempinski, supported by telkomtelstra. The Gala Dinner was attended by over 100 guests from the nominated organizations, along with other invited C-level executives.

The IDC DX Awards winners for Indonesia were selected through three rounds of panel judging and scoring on IDC’s DX MaturityScape Benchmark Assessment. In enforcing the highest level of transparency and impartiality in the evaluation process, each submission was reviewed and deliberated on by IDC Asia/Pacific senior executives.

Winners from all around Asia Pacific will join the Indonesia winners at IDC's DX Summit and Digital Transformation Awards (DXa) Gala Night, where the regional winners will be announced for the categories of Digital Transformer of the Year; Digital Disruptor of the Year; DX Leader - L3D Mastery; DX Leader - Information Visionary; DX Leader - Omni-experience Innovation; DX Leader - Operational Transformation; and DX Leader - Talent Acceleration.
