New IDC Report Reveals DevSecOps Trends in Asia/Pacific and Best Practices to Lead in the Next Normal

SINGAPORE, November 18th, 2020 – IDC Asia/Pacific’s latest report, titled DevSecOps and the Future of Digital Innovation presents secure DevOps (DevSecOps) as a core capability for leading Asian/Pacific enterprises. It delivers a framework for DevSecOps, which is as much re-teaming as it is about re-tooling.

"Old-school security is a rotten fit for today's rapid software development life cycles. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, full-cycle security is critical. Organizations in every sector must retool — and reteam — to shift security earlier in the cycle, ensure continuous security and promote enterprise-wide accountability," says Dr. Gina Smith, Lead for DevOps at IDC Asia/Pacific.

Based on IDC’s Asia/Pacific 2020 Software Survey, more than 42% of organizations have backed up security in the planning phase. Moreover, 60% backed up security into the design phase. IDC notes that the earlier organizations can incorporate security, the more effective they will be.

The research at hand lays out five best DevSecOps practices for organizations in the region. These include seeking alignment between business, IT development, executive, and security leadership from the get-go. It also involving integrating security as early as possible into the software planning and design stages, automating continuous testing, developing a culture of experimentation and adapting a culture-wide continuous-improvement mindset similar to the Kaizen manufacturing techniques Toyota introduced decades ago.
