IDC Report Reveals Challenges and Outlook for ASEAN Commercial Printing in 2021

SINGAPORE, January 20th, 2021 – IDC Asia/Pacific’s latest report titled Market Analysis Perspective: Opportunities for Commercial Printing in Southeast Asia dives into the mindset of commercial print decision makers, and reveals what influence a purchase decision, as print volume in ASEAN declined by about 70% in 2020. IDC’s direct engagement with some of the top commercial printers (CP) in ASEAN enables us to understand the requirements of CP, the print process, the pain points and pinpoint the opportunities within.

“To most CP’s, reaction time to fix an issue or good after sales service earns most points in their purchase decision. Reaction time to fix an issue is ranked most important because time is money, and every minute of downtime will cost CP to incur losses,” says Krystal Khaw, Senior Market Analyst, IPDS at IDC Asia/Pacific.

Trustworthy vendor, and machine reliability and quality are ranked second as CP must be assured that they will not be dissatisfied in their investment on a machine. Finally, vendor who offer continuous business development and not just one-off selling – with the print market evolving rapidly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic among other things, CPs often struggle to catch up with the emerging technologies.

While the pandemic has hit the print market hard, it also provides pockets of opportunities: demand for deployment of better workflow solutions in whole or parts of the print process; purchase order; production; and delivery. Without a doubt, the pandemic has become a catalyst for technological adoptions, changing the behavior and mindset of CPs.
