Only 21% of Indian Organizations Incorporate Security Testing at the Earliest Stage of SDLC, According to IDC

INDIA, July 20: As per IDC DevSecOps Survey, only 21% of Indian organizations incorporate security testing at the earliest stage of the software development life cycle (SDLC).

In a recent IDC Market Presentation titled Are India Enterprises DevSecOps-Ready? State of DevSecOps Adoption in India, IDC provides deep insights on uniting security with DevOps to accelerate innovation and application delivery. This report also provides insights into DevSecOps initiatives, tools, practices, and policies among Indian enterprises. The goals involve understanding the factors driving and challenging the DevSecOps adoption among Indian organizations.

"India organizations are dedicating significant budgets to their software development life cycle (SDLC) and increasingly incorporating agile and DevOps methodologies. However, the organizations need to realize the importance of incorporating security across the SDLC," says Rithika Ponnala, Senior Research Analyst, Digital Transformation Practice, IDC India.

“Explosion of new applications results in the increase of cybersecurity attacks too. As a result, DevSecOps gains momentum and IT leaders aim towards integrating security early in the development cycle,” says Neha Gupta, Senior Research Manager, IDC India.

As organizations face these challenges, leaders are looking to change their strategies. As per the same survey, organizations are prioritizing accelerating innovation and application delivery by uniting security with DevOps.

Key findings from this report on DevSecOps adoption in India are:

Acceleration of innovation and application delivery: Uniting security with DevOps, cloud nativity, and sustained testing/analysis are the top three priorities of Indian organizations to accelerate innovation and application delivery.

Speed is driving DevSecOps adoption: Need for faster delivery, increasing security concerns, and agility are the top drivers of DevSecOps initiatives across Indian organizations

Challenges with lack of right tools: Indian organizations cited lack of automated/integrated tools, automating across hybrid environments, and budget constraints to be the biggest obstacles.

Opportunity for service providers: Majority of the Indian organizations are already relying/foresee the need to rely on consultancies for implementing DevSecOps.

The IDC report, Are India Enterprises DevSecOps-Ready? State of DevSecOps Adoption in India  (Doc #AP48913822), provides additional insights on the preparedness and current state of DevSecOps in the India market. The study assesses various practices being adopted by organizations to accelerate application development and highlights factors driving and challenging organizations from employing the DevSecOps approach.
