Majority of Life Sciences (LS) Organizations See Innovation as Top Business Driver

SINGAPORE, September 28, 2023 – According to a recent IDC report, 2023 Life Sciences Digital Transformation Survey: Asia/Pacific (Including Japan) Perspectives, majority of the Life Sciences organizations in Asia/Pacific identified innovation as the top business driver moving forward. In line with this innovation–driven approach, two out of five said they are using generative AI tools for digital transformation (DX) initiatives.

This IDC report shows that the Life Sciences (LS) industry has undergone major DX in Asia/Pacific at an accelerated pace in the past two years. Business leaders within Asia/Pacific LS organizations are prioritizing prescription digital therapeutics, digital patient engagement, drug safety & discovery, and decentralized clinical trials (DCTs), as part of their DX initiatives. The report also reveals that DX strategies among Asia/Pacific LS organizations are being largely driven by IT but increasingly becoming a collaborative process between IT and LOB (line-of-business) teams.

Highlights of the report include:

  • Over 78% of LS organizations in Asia/Pacific are undergoing DX.
  • Around 46% of the Asia/Pacific respondents said they have increased DX spending in 2023 compared to 2022.
  • To implement DX, LS organizations in Asia/Pacific prioritize emerging technologies, particularly IoT, data security, and cloud technologies.
  • Data security and privacy are the top DX challenge for Asia/Pacific LS organizations.

"Over three quarters of Asia/Pacific's Life Sciences organizations are embracing digital transformation, with GenAI propelling innovations like precision drugs, improved workflows, and enhanced patient experiences. As we advance, the emphasis will grow on cybersecurity and KPI-driven partnerships to sustain this momentum," says Manoj Vallikkat, Senior Research Manager at IDC Asia/Pacific Healthcare Insights.
