Czech Hardcopy Peripherals Market Declines Sharply in Q1 2019, Following a Solid Performance in 2018, According to IDC

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Prague — Following mild unit growth in 2018 on the back of economic expansion and relative political stability, shipments of hardcopy peripherals (HCP) in the Czech Republic dropped 13.7% year on year to 99,688 units in the first quarter of 2019 (1Q19), according to the Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker published by International Data Corporation (IDC).

Demand for HCP in 1Q19 in the Czech Republic was inhibited by weakening consumer sentiment, as well as numerous public projects being completed in the second half of 2018. Moreover, intensified digitization efforts of businesses and public organizations are decreasing print output and the demand for printing equipment, as well as for consumables. ''Weak 1Q19 sell-through resulted in high stock levels in major distributors' and etailers' warehouses, lowering sales-in (sales to first-tier channel partners) expectations for the second quarter of 2019,'' says Zuzana Babicka, a market analyst at IDC Central Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEMA).

The Czech HCP market is the third largest in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE, including Russia) in both unit and value terms and first in terms of HCP devices per capita. The market was fairly balanced in terms of technology in 1Q19, with laser machines holding a slim majority (53.43%) of overall shipments versus inkjet. From the color adoption viewpoint, the Czech laser market held second place in the CEE region, close behind Slovakia, with color laser units comprising almost a quarter of total laser shipments. Smart MFPs accounted for about 10% of the overall laser market in 1Q19.

Notes:

  • IDC tracks A2-A4 devices in the Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker
  • HCP includes single-function printers, multifunction printers (MFPs), and single-function digital copiers (SFDC). Data for all vendors are reported for calendar periods.
