Czech ICT Spending to Grow 3.7% in 2021, Says IDC

PRAGUE, June 12 — International Data Corporation (IDC) forecasts the Czech Republic ICT market to grow 3.7% in 2021 as organizations restart digital transformation and other IT projects that were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

IDC’s new Worldwide Black Book: Live Edition reports the Czech Republic recorded 2.7% ICT spending growth in 2020, with the market rising to a value of nearly $10.5 billion.

The COVID-19 crisis forced Czech organizations to focus on collaboration and communications and remote working models, substantially boosting demand for cloud. Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) spending grew a massive 30% in 2020. Device sales — primarily of notebooks and tablets — rose 10%.

In line with projected 2021 Czech GDP growth of 3.8%, IDC foresees expanding markets for software and services, including security, customer service, advertising, marketing, and human capital management applications.

IDC expects Czech mobile phone revenues to grow by more than 11% in 2021 after slumping in 2020 due to supply chain disruptions. Hardcopy peripheral sales are expected to grow 6% in support of remote working models.

IaaS spending is expected to slow somewhat in 2021 but to still expand at a blistering 27.3% clip. Revenues from devices are forecast to decline by 2.7%, mainly due to reduced sales of tablets in a saturated market.

IDC’s recent European Industry Acceleration Survey found that more than 40% of European companies have started or will start to recover in 2021 from the effects of the COVID-19 crisis.

“IT education, retaining talent, and providing the right working conditions must be central to company culture,” says Ivana Slaharova, research manager in IDC's Customer Insights and Analysis team for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. “The human factor and technological augmentation are essential to growth and building digital resiliency in volatile conditions.”

IDC’s Worldwide Black Book: Live Edition is updated monthly with the latest IT spending forecasts for annual growth across 100 countries. It will continue to evolve and capture the escalating impact of the coronavirus on market expectations.
