Professional Services to Lead 6% Growth in CEE ICT Spending in 2021, Says IDC

Prague, July 29 — The ICT market in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) will expand 6.1% year on year in 2021, rising to a value of more than $139 billion, according to a new forecast by International Data Corporation (IDC).

IDC’s Worldwide Semiannual ICT Spending Guide Industry and Company Size reports that professional services is projected to have the fastest spending growth in CEE, recording a 5.8% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2021–2025.

Personal and consumer services currently account for less than 1% of ICT spending in CEE, but the sector is expected to post a 6.2% CAGR through 2025. IDC notes that CEE investments in this sector are ramping up as companies implement digital transformation (DX) strategies to underpin their future business.

In the hardware category, infrastructure as a service, mobile phones, and personal computing devices are all forecast to grow at double-digit rates in CEE in 2021.

IDC says the need to reduce internal and external IT operational costs while boosting agility and resiliency is fueling demand for cloud infrastructure services. Mobile phones and PCs are regarded as primary client systems. These technologies enable Internet of Things/endpoints, edge infrastructure, core datacenters, and cloud, facilitating adoption of new hybrid working models.

IDC’s recent European Industry Acceleration Survey found that cybersecurity will remain a leading driver of spending in 2021. Large and medium-sized companies are expected to increase expenditures at a faster rate than small businesses. Larger organizations are more resilient to macroeconomic shocks and have benefited from more COVID-19-related government support, particularly in Russia.

“The COVID-19 crisis continues to impact ICT expenditures in Central and Eastern Europe, but there are bright spots for technology vendors, services providers, and systems integrators,” says Soheyla Mirshahi, IDC senior research analyst. “Companies are investing in new working models that emphasize agile, flexible, customer-centric, and automated processes. Demand for infrastructure as a service will grow in double digits in the coming years.”
