IDC Hosts Virtual CIO Summit Under Patronage of Mauritius's Minister of Information Technology, Communication, and Innovation

Port Louis – International Data Corporation (IDC) today hosted more than 100 senior ICT leaders on its industry-leading virtual platform for the 7th annual installment of its IDC Mauritius CIO Summit, which ran under the theme ‘Innovative Digital Strategies: Evolving to the Demands of a New Reality.'

IDC was honored to present the Honorable Deepak Balgobin, Mauritius's Minister of Information Technology, Communication, and Innovation, with an award recognizing his outstanding contribution to the country's IT community. The minister opened the day's proceedings by outlining the way in which the COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped ICT priorities among businesses in Mauritius and explaining how the government has responded to the crisis by accelerating the provision of digital services and promoting the widespread adoption of emerging technologies.

"Two years ago, we could not imagine that the whole world would be subject to a situation where economies would come to a complete standstill," said the Honorable Minister. "The ICT sector has been the least impacted, providing effective support for other industries to keep them afloat. One thing is certain, the reverberations of the COVID-19 pandemic will be felt across the business and economic landscape for a long time. And in this new reality, connectivity, online collaboration, digital services, and emerging technologies have become the lifeblood of today's business world."

The digital event offered an unrivaled immersive experience for participants as they seamlessly engaged in content-rich presentations and panel discussions, connected with exhibitors via video chat, and interacted with IDC analysts and key industry players in designated networking zones. Expert speakers explored the latest trends in areas such as cloud, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital leadership, intelligent automation, and the future of Work, to name just a few.

IDC's chief research officer, Meredith Whalen, presented the Summit's keynote address, 'Digital Resiliency: Navigating Through the Winds of Change', in which she outlined the need for organizations to employ a new C-Suite agenda if they are to become masters at pivoting rapidly, capitalizing on change, and driving innovation in times of uncertainty.

"The COVID-19 pandemic illustrated why organizations need to be able to rapidly adapt and respond to business disruptions," said Whalen. "But this will not be the last disruption they face. The digital economy — which relies heavily on the continued flow of goods and services around the globe, as well as on transformational technology platforms and business innovation — will create more cycles of disruption to business operations and models than any other economic period."

For the very first time, this year's IDC Mauritius CIO Summit  also incorporated a dedicated CIO Masterclass Arena that attendees could access throughout the course of the event. This section of the virtual platform showcased a series of exclusive CXO best-practice presentations, fireside chats, and panel discussions with more than 50 international and regional industry pioneers.
