The year of 2022 was another year tilted towards foundational work and getting digital operations in order. CIOs are still balancing the persistent focus on transformation and modernization with a maturing leadership role, embracing responsibilities outside of the traditional IT domain and cementing status as a valued and strategic partner to the business.

CIO’s 22^nd annual State of the CIO survey by Foundry (an IDG, Inc. Company) was conducted with the objective of understanding how the role of the CIO continues to evolve in today’s business climate and to help define the CIO agenda for 2023. This year’s global study with 837 IT leaders and 201 LOB participants highlights this shift in IT priorities, the impact of the economic climate as well as the CIO’s initiatives to increase cybersecurity efforts and operational efficiency.

2023 State of the CIO Study by Foundry reveals the areas where CIOs need additional headcount (security, analytics and AI/ML) are also the areas they expect to be the most difficult to fill. And block chain has jumped from 14^th ranked last tear to #2 this year.

Technology has evolved at brisk pace so rapidly in past few years, multiplied by the post pandemic overcast, that it’s hard to keep track — and what most is in demand today may be obsolete tomorrow.
