Closing the Gap Between IT and Business

Johannesburg, October 24, 2018

The age-old argument that IT must align with business goals to deliver value is still a reality today. However, IT has not yet achieved this alignment, and as such the gap between IT and business is starting to widen. This gap had a political element in previous years — while IT and business did not see eye to eye, business still followed IT's lead (as business functions new what to do and were aware of who owned the infrastructure). Now, however, the balance has started to shift, and business has a lot more power.

Most organizations are drifting down this path toward greater separation between IT and business almost by default. If such entities do not take corrective action, this gap will continue to widen.

IT operations are being completely marginalised, almost to the point of irrelevance. If nobody cares what IT thinks anymore, how can IT personnel get of their data-centric boxes and make themselves relevant to the business conversations?

The IDC Cloud and Datacentre Roadshow will help such individuals find a unique balance for their organizations. Key discussions will include:

  • How do you make use of the resources available?
  • How do you personally remain relevant to the organisation?
  • What bets are you making for the future?
  • What you are going to do, or not do, about the movement to the cloud?
  • How do you get other business units to share their strategies so that you can provide relevant solutions that drive business value?
  • When does it make sense to move something to the cloud?

Importance for Security within the Overall Datacenter Strategy

Software- Defined Everything

The adoption of server virtualization technology in the region is continuing to accelerate as organizations consolidate critical applications on virtual machines. These deployments will see organizations exploit other benefits of server virtualization, such as high availability, increased flexibility and scalability, and simplified disaster recovery. The adoption of ‘virtualization' today is broadening to storage, network and desktop virtualization. This will be the main driver for the Software-Defined “Everything” market being the next logical step to efficient control and centralized management in a fully virtualized environment.
